Alternate Take

This is an alternate take from the episode The Crying Child. This is the same scene after the clapper loader (camera assistant) stepped back out of the scene. Note: since the scene starts with Hutch coming out and talking to Starsky, this view was not used. Instead a different camera angle which shows a three-quarter profile of both actors appears in the episode. That makes these clips part of an alternate take.

Blooper and Clapper Board

This unusual clip shows Hutch (David Soul) operating the clapper board to start the scene inside the Grand Torino driven by Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser). This shot was not used in the show because you can see part of the film crew outside Starsky’s window. This would be a blooper which is an error made during a scene, often flubbed dialog, or as in this case - the camera showing something by mistake

Clapper Board

This is a Clapper Board from the epsiode The Crying Child filmed 8/23/77 and directed by Georg Stanford Brown. Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) just saw the marks of abuse on the back of a young boy. He had to leave the school room and sit outside to compose himself. Hutch followed him outside and sat on the bench seat to Starsky’s right to commiserate in The Crying Child.

Clapper Board

This is a Clapper Board from the epsiode Class in Crime filmedf 1/17/78and directed by Paul Michael Glaser. This is an example of a clapperboard used at the start of a scene to synchronize the sound and picture which are recorded separately. It tells us the name of the show Starsky & Hutch, the date it was filmed 1/17/78, who the director was P Glaser, the scene number 37A, it’s a daytime shot (To help with color correction if needed), and that this is the second take. The episode being filmed is A Class in Crime. Hutch (played by David Soul) and Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) are at a car dealership owned by a man recently murdered. Starsky is distracted by the very high end cars and is bemoaning the fact that he can’t afford one.
